Last week, I got an email from Google Webmaster Tools telling me that I’d been receiving an unusual number of 404 errors on my website. That is what happens when pages disappear. Not a good thing.  In fact a very bad thing!

Today was the first chance I’ve had to take a proper look at it and I realized that the errors were coming from my family pages which are powered by The Next Generation of Genealogy SiteBuilding (TNG) by Darrin Lythgoe. I poked around a bit but was at a loss to figure out why I was suddenly unable to view anything beyond the home page on the family site. I emailed Darrin and not 20 minutes later, despite the fact that it is Good Friday, I had an answering email and a solution that took me only a couple of minutes to complete. I’m not sure if I broke things somehow, or if my web host did the deed but it’s all back to normal now.

I’ve been using TNG for my family tree since 2009. It is the perfect tool to put your genealogy online and I unconditionally recommend it.  If you’ve been thinking about putting your genealogy online, definitely go and check out the TNG website and the sample TNG sites.

The very first time I installed TNG back in 2009, the process was a little technical and probably if I hadn’t had an IT background, I might have been a little hesitant, despite the clear, step-by-step instructions. But with each version that comes out, Darrin has made the installation simpler and quicker and the last time I installed it, I was up and running in about ten minutes. I’ve upgraded, moved domains and upgraded again and the few times I’ve needed support, I’m always amazed by the incredible response.

By the way, I have absolutely no affiliation with TNG – I’m just a very satisfied customer!
