I found another unusual entry for my collection last night in the Cleobury Mortimer parish register, 1795:
“Henry Olman, a journey-man cabinet-maker, born and bred up in Germany to a complete knowledge of his business, but influenced by a rambling disposition, he spent the little money he acquired in passing thro France, Switzerland etc before he came into this kingdom and maintained himself by taking employment under the persons set up in his profession in the places he travelled thro. He was aged 74; professed himself a Lutheran, but was illiterate, uninformed & inoffensive. He has lived several years in this town, etc; in his tools he left about a sufficiency to defray his Funeral expenses. He was buried Aug’t the 24th”
I’d love to find the family that this gentleman belongs to!
