Free Digital Microfilm Records to Download

A little known resource, the free digital microfilm records at the National Archives UK cover many subjects from military and navel records to foreign office and home office correspondence. They are digitised versions of microfilms and can be downloaded and browsed as large PDF files which can be viewed in Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Although you will be prompted to add the record to ‘your basket’ and check out on the National Archives website, once you view the cart, you will see that the PDF is free to download.

For an online index to available downloads, check out the A-Z record series on digital microfilm and discover something new about your ancestors.

Quick Tip

When printing from these files specify which page numbers you would like to print, as many are up to 800 pages long in total.
